This page is your starting place to find information pertaining to
classes taught by Mr. Bret Harpster at Waverly High School. Through the
Courses link at the left, or specific classes below, you will be able to find the following:
- Courses for math in the 9th grade pod 1000 team, 6th & 7th period geometry
- Classroom expectations
- Online resources students may access from home to help them in classwork.
- The About link lets you know more about Mr. Harpster.
- Calculators. The students in mathematics are expected
to have their own calculator for use in class, on homework, and on
quizzes and tests. One calculator that I recommend is the TI30X IIS
calculator from Texas Instruments. I have a version of this that I
demonstrate on the overhead projector so that students can easily
follow the keystrokes. An important feature of it is the two-line
display, which allows students to see what they entered and their
results. That is a simple but powerful feature that helps students make
sense of their answers, discover and correct their mistakes, and
investigate patterns. This calculator is available at many stores for
about $14.99. We also have a class set of graphing calculators (TI-83)
that we will use for selected activities. Students may use any
scientific or graphing calculator of their choosing for class. The ones
mentioned above are calculators that I can most assist students with
their questions and how-to's.
