ITQ Project Abstract

Our project primarily involves video editing. My partner, Scott Burns, and I plan to use video in a few ways.

  1. Convert videotapes to digital video so that we may use iMovie, Photoshop Express, or Final Cut Express to edit and add text. One video clip is from This Old House and shows them using the Pythagorean Theorem. We want to add text that instructs students about the Pythagorean Theorem and its uses.
  2. Videotape student demonstrations of classwork over time to create a video portfolio of the student's math work. This may be used to allow the student to see their growth in math skills and to share with parents.
  3. Prepare several math clips that may be used in class and organize them so that they may be retrieved from a DVD or from a server.

Geometry can be more meaningful to students when they can see it used in practical applications. Finding and using geometry in applied situations allows students to develop their math skills in a relevant context.
