Family: Parents: Sam & Janine Ruhter I come from an agricultural family. My parents raise corn, soy beans, wheat, and beef cattle (Black Angus cows crossed with Charolais bulls). When they aren't toiling with all of that they keep themselves ridiculously busy with the family auction and real estate business. My dad is an auctioneer and real estate agent and my mom is an associate broker and the residential real estate specialist with Ruhter Auction and Realty Inc. My sisters and I are all out of the house so my parents spend their free time relaxing with friends and family and spoiling their Lhasa Apso, Russell. My mom calls him our "baby brother."
Sisters: Older sister--Brandie Kral-- Bran and her husband Jason currently reside in Juniata. I have a beautiful, free spirited niece, Kylah, who believe it or not, loves the spot light even more than her aunt Brookie! Younger sister--Samantha Schirmer-- Sam and her husband Tim live in Kenesaw. Sam is employed at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings as an Obstetrics Nurse and Tim is an industrial tech teacher at Doniphan-Trumball Public Schools. Sam and Tim married after having dated since my lil sis was an eighth grader.
Hobbies & Interests: ~Spending time with friends and family ~Sports: Softball and Basketball are all I play anymore, but I will watch just about anything, especially college sports. I'm a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Phoenix Suns, the Duke Blue Devils, and the Tennessee Lay Vols. I also have a huge weakness for The Ultimate Fighting Championship. ~Movies: I love the whole movie theatre expereince. Some of my favorite movies include: The Princess Bride, A League of Their Own, Love & Basketball, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Goonies, Million Dollar Baby, Wanted... ~Reading: My favorite book of all time is Bridge to Terabithia. I was so pleased to make it part of the 7th grade curriculum this year. I love a good murder-mystery. Alex Kava, a female author from Omaha, is someone whose work I really enjoy. My students and fellow teacher, Leah Wilcox, also got me hooked on the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. ~The Outdoors: I definitely prefer being outdoors. I love camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and hunting. Growing up I found any excuse I could to get out of doing indoor chores. I left those to my sisters. I preferred being outside with my dad doing the "real" chores. Having no boys in the family, Dad was more than happy to teach me how to be a tomboy. I've been driving tractors, herding livestock, and hunting with Dad ever since I can remember. I am definitely Daddy's little girl. ~Cooking: When my schedule allows it, I love to cook. The kitchen is one place my mom and I have really bonded in the last several years. We have had some great discussions and Mom has taught many invaluable life lessons while preparing holiday dinners together. Mom and I butted heads a lot growing up. It wasn't until I went off to college that I realized it was because we are so very much alike. I get a lot of my firey qualities from my mom. It is from her example that I have learned how to be a strong-willed, independent woman.
