About
Why do I love teaching? This is my answer......
People ask, "Why do you work so hard for your students?" There
are so many things I could say but the answer must be-- because of one child.
I swim through seas of papers with colored pens as paddles, seeking to
improve without dispiriting, to point a better way without losing their
enthusiasm.
Because of one child I seek my own reserves and provide opportunities which would otherwise be lost.
Because of one child I
will spend my time generously--as if I had a lifetime of such
days. I will see the whole of the world from a small hill and
will believe, against convention, in "impossible" results.
At the end of the teaching day I leave the classroom, but
I am still, and shall ever be, a teacher. Time ago I was a child
for whom such commitment made a difference. I will dedicate my
days confident my efforts matter...
...because of one child!
Hi,
my name is Cindy Schmidt and I have been teaching in the Waverly School
District since 1990. My first ten years in Waverly I was the High
School Alternative Education Teacher. Since then I have
been a Resource teacher at the Middle School. I am currently the
resource teacher for the eighth grade team. I taught in the Omaha
Public School system for the three years previous to coming to
Waverly. My first two years out of college, I taught in
Twentynine Palms, California. I was a fifth grade teacher and the
High School Girls Basketball Coach. My first year, we were
undefeated at 21 - 0. My dad told me I should have retired from coaching that
year! :)

I am the Head Middle School Boys and Girls Track
Coach for both seventh and eighth grades. I have been
coaching track since coming to Waverly District #145. I
also coached girls basketball for five years at the middle school
level. In 29 Palms, I coached Girls High School Basketball for
two years. I have had the opportunity to run the score clock for
the Varsity Football games for the last 13 years. I also have had
the chance to run the clock at a Nebraska football game with my father, and for the last two years have run the clock for the Nebraska State Football Championship games.
I
also enjoy many diverse hobbies, including jewelry making, rug hooking,
gardening, reading, and watching college sporting events. My
husband and I also enjoy Nascar Racing.
 I have been
married to Mike Schmidt since 1991. He is a Lincoln
Firefighter. Our only child was a chocolate lab named Browne. I am sorry to report that we lost Browne on October 6th, 2007. She was almost eleven years old. Mike and I miss her more than words can express. We are hoping to add another dog to our family in the summer of 2008, to help fill the void from the loss of our beloved Browne.
I
grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from Lincoln East High
School, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
