American History
OverviewThis year we will be covering the history of the United States from its earliest beginnings to contemporary America. The history of the United States is one of the most fascinating aspects of world history. It is our duty and privilege as citizens of the United States to have an understanding of our past.
First Semester Units 1. Creating a Nation Prehistory to 1815 2. Forging a Nation 1815-1877 3. New Horizons 1860-1900
Second Semester Units 1. Entering a New Century 1867-1920 2. Crusade & Disillusion 1914-1932 3. Times of Crisis 1932-1960 4. Redefining America 1954-Present
Each student will have a binder and will bring it each day to class. This is not negotiable. During each unit students will use the binder to organize their notes, handouts, quizzes, and other course material in preparation for the exam. The binder is each student’s study guide for the chapter, unit and semester exams. Completion of the binder is not negotiable. There will be binder checks periodically.
AssessmentStudents will be assessed by exams at the end of each chapter, unit, and a semester exam. In addition there will be individual projects throughout the semester that will be graded. All quizzes, handouts, etc. will not be graded. The purpose of the material given before the exam is in preparation for the exam. What I am looking for is how well each student is able to take in the knowledge and express it in the form of an exam or project.
