World Cultures
OverviewThis year we will look at the history of the world. We will be emphasizing on history after the year 1300 C.E. In the world we live in today, understanding the past is especially important.
First Semester Units 1. Rise of Democratic Ideas 2. Connecting Hemispheres 3. Absolutism to Revolution
Second Semester Units 1. Industrialism & the Race for Empire 2. The World at War 3. Perspectives on the Present
Each student will have a binder and will bring it each day to class. This is not negotiable. During each unit students will use the binder to organize their notes, handouts, quizzes, and other course material in preparation for the exam. The binder is each student’s study guide for the chapter, unit and semester exams. Completion of the binder is not negotiable. There will be binder checks periodically.
AssessmentStudents will be assessed by exams at the end of each chapter, unit, and a semester exam. In addition there will be individual projects throughout the semester that will be graded. All quizzes, handouts, etc. will not be graded. The purpose of the material given before the exam is in preparation for the exam. What I am looking for is how well each student is able to take in the knowledge and express it in the form of an exam or project.
