Physical education is the study and practice of the science and the art of human movement. Through physical education, an individual has the opportunity to learn to perform efficiently the motor skills they need in everyday living and recreational activities. Students will become physically fit and know the relationships between physical activity, physical fitness and health. Students will improve skills, knowledge and attitudes, to help them lead active, healthy, and productive lives as adults. Satisfying and successful experiences in physical education should develop individual desire to regularly participate in physical activity throughout life.

Program Contents

Instructional emphasis at the primary grades (k-3) is based on motor skill theme development, movement concepts, and improvement in muscular strength, endurance, flexibility and agility.

In grades 4-5, emphasis is on refinement of motor skill themes, and development of a high level of physical fitness.

Physical education is provided to all students k-5. Students participate in physical education for thirty minutes, twice one week and three times the next. Physical fitness tests are administered in the fall and in the spring, using the health related Fitnessgram tests for fitness assessment.

This program includes the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance national standards.
