6th Grade Curriculum

COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY – This is a 9 week exploratory course.  The class is designed to give students a knowledge and understanding of the history and future of communication. We will cover many aspects of communication: electronic, graphic, light, optic, and acoustic modes.  We will be using and operating lasers and learning their purpose in communication.  Also board drafting will be used to problem solve and view drawings from different angles.  Problem solving activities such as verbal and non-verbal will be used throughout the 9 weeks.  A writing assignment will be required over the new advances in communication. We will also explore careers and opportunities related to the communication industry.

 

The learner will be able to

1.      Have an understanding of class rules and regulations

2.      Have the ability to share and assume responsibilities

3.      Assist in shop maintenance and clean up

4.      Utilize written and oral directions

5.    Explain how the human sensory system contributes to communication

6.    Demonstrate an example of audio, visual, and/or audio-visual communication

7.    Recognize the interaction of communication systems and gender/cultural diversity

8.    Apply a problem-solving process to arrive at a workable solution to a communication problem

9.    Interact in a group to make informed decisions

10.  Identify and safely apply communication resources to inform, persuade, or entertain

11.  Develop skills to process information

12.  Reinforce systems of communication by exploring and applying knowledge and skills from the other curricular areas

13.  Explain how to properly read a ruler
