Engineering Technology Curriculum
Engineering Technology - This class is a semester and is designed to cover the four areas of technology (communication, construction, manufacturing and transportation). Students will learn basic concepts through lectures, notes, videos, field trips, and hands on experience. They will be required to do a 1-page paper on each unit covered. In Communication we will cover the principle of electronics and wire an electronic circuit board. In construction we will cover different structures and then build a model bridge for competition. In manufacturing we will take field trips of various industries around the area. The principles of hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, plastics, and quality control will also be covered. In Transportation we will the four transportation types. They will also build a CO2 car, learning about aerodynamics. Students will construct a model rocket and learn the basic of flight. Solar will be introduced in to the electronics area and a solar car will be built.
The learner will be able to:
1. Explain and demonstrate the ability to work safely in the lab
2. Identify parts of a small engine
3. Explain the principle of aerodynamics
4. Identify materials by texture, strength, appearances and cost
5. Identify exhaustible and inexhaustible sources and explain how each in its own way will help or hinder the world
6. Analyze the interaction of humans and machines
7. Explain the history of the four areas of technology
8. Send, receive, and understand verbal and nonverbal message
9. Apply a problem-solving process to arrive to a workable solution
10. Safely operate tools and equipment
11. Explain and experience various means of employment in the four areas of technology
12. Integrate gender/culture diversity in technology
13. Work as a group or team
