Philosophy of Education
My philosophy of education is to successfully integrate traditional shop methods with new shop methods. I believe we still need to teach welding, small engines, woods, construction, and drafting, along with the fairly new concept of Technology Labs. With Tech labs, students experience a lot of different types of technologies. Such things as Auto Cad, CAD/CAM, Digital Photography, Video Editing, Animation, Graphic Design, Flight Simulator, Virtual Reality, and many others. Even though the students do not spend a whole semester on each one of these labs, it does give them a basis on how things work. If they choose to purse a degree in one or more of these areas they will have an idea of what it deals with. Most of my instruction will come from demonstrations, and the use of Power Point in my lecture classes. I believe that I will have to use a number of different types of teaching methods. This way I will reach every student in some way or another. I also believe that I must also integrate some form of reading and writing activity. Just because they are shop classes does not mean the students do not need to read and write.
I believe that every student who walks through my door has the ability to be some one great. Though finding that may be challenging at times I strive to help everyone learn. Learning does not always happen in the classroom, so I take my students on tours to industry and local Trade schools. Guest speakers are another great tool used in my teaching.
With my philosophy of education I believe it will work in any school district, but I would really like to teach in a small school district. The reason for that is that I come from a small town and I like the small town atmosphere.
