PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the Waverly Middle school program is to provide and opportunity for creativity and self-expression through the study of music and musical performance. Each student is given the opportunity to develop his aesthetic potential as well as his appreciation and enjoyment for music to the highest possible level through Expressive experiences with music.

OBJECTIVES

1. Reading and notating music. 2. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music. 3. Evaluating music and music performances. 4. Understanding music in relation to history and culture, as well as the connection of music to the other arts.

The 7th Grade General Music class will be graded on the following:

20% Attendance/Attitude/Posture/Effort 20% Participation 30% Daily Assignments 30% Unit tests and projects

Attendance - 20% ¸ Coming to class on time with a positive attitude. ¸ Coming to class prepared (bring a pencil & notebook to class, etc.) ¸ Posture

Participation – 20% ¸ Participating in class assignments, projects, and discussions.

Daily Assignments – 30% ¸ Required assignments

Unit tests and projects – 30% ¸ Written tests, projects, or demonstrations

7th Grade General Music

Class rules:

1. No gum, candy, or drinks are allowed. 2. Class members will be in their seats with notebook & pencil at the beginning of class. 3. Respect for self, others, and school and personal property. 4. No visiting while instructions are being communicated. 5. Treat everyone in a positive manner.

Detentions if needed will be served after school as stated in the Middle School Handbook. Four tardies will result in one after school detention.
