Elks National Foundation Scholarships
* Includes Most Valuable Student, Nebraska Elks Association, Vocational/Business, Teaching, and General Academic Scholarships. Various criteria required. Scholarships range from $400 to $60,000. Deadlines range from January 9, 2009, to January 31, 2009. Apply on-line at www.elks80.org.


Nebraska State College Board of Trustees Full Tuition Scholarship
* Must attend either Peru State, Chadron State, or Wayne State, have an ACT score of 25+, complete an application with one letter of recommendation. Worth $14,000 over four years. Deadline is January 15, 2009. Apply on-line at www.nscs.edu.


Nebraska State College Governor's Opportunity Award Half-Tuition Scholarship
* Must attend either Peru State, Chadron State, or Wayne State, have an ACT score of 21-24, submit an application, and write essay. Worth $7,000 over four years. Deadline is December 1, 2008. Apply on-line at www.nscs.edu.

Ayn Rand Essay Contest Scholarship
* Must read Ayn Rand's novel called The Fountainhead and then write an essay about it. Scholarships worth from $50 to $10,000. Download essay topics and rules from www.aynrand.org/contests. Deadline is April 25, 2009.


Northwest Missouri State Karen Hawkins and Charles Hawkins Accounting Scholarships
* Must attend NWMSU, major in accounting, complete application, and write essay. Worth $450. Deadline is February 1, 2009. See Mr. Fields for application.

Northwest Missouri State Booth College of Business and Professional Studies Scholarship
* Must attend NWMSU, major in a business-related field (including journalism and accounting), complete application, and write essay. Worth $1,950. Deadline is December 1, 2008. See Mr. Fields for application.


National Co-op Scholarship Program
* Must attend sponsoring university (including Johnson & Wales) and have a 3.5+ G.P.A. Worth up to $20,000. Deadline is February 15, 2009.

Southeast Community College Educational Foundation Scholarship
* Must be ranked in the top half of class and must enroll in SCC between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. Apply on-line at southeast.edu/admissions. No paper applications will be accepted. Scholarship worth $500. Deadline is midnight February 22, 2009. See a list of other SCC scholarships at the same website.


Toyota Community Scholars

Peter Kiewit Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program
* Must demonstrate financial need, be ranked in the top 20% of class, and must attend a four-year Nebraska college or university. Worth $30,000 over four years. Deadline is January 7, 2009. See Mr. Fields for application.


V.F.W. Post #4755 Auxiliary Scholarship

* Open to any student who has a mother or grandmother of the VFW Auxiliary who is a life member as of July 1, 2009. Application deadline is March 1, 2009. See Mr. Fields for application.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program Scholarship
* Must have a 2.75+ G.P.A., pursue a bachelor's degree in an in-state college, and complete a FAFSA. Worth $5,000. Deadline is February 10, 2009. Access application on-line starting December 1, 2008, at www.kfcscholars.org.

Nebraska Educational Office Professionals Association Scholarship

* Must major in office-related profession, write a biographical sketch, and have three letters of recommendation. Worth $1,000. Deadline is January 15, 2009. Access application on-line at neopa.unl.edu.

Nebraska Machinery Company Diesel Technology Scholarship
* Must attend Central Community College in Hastings, complete the ASSET, ACT, or COMPASS test, and major in diesel technology. Sponsorship provides tuition, tool allowance, and books worth $14,000+. Sponsored students must agree to work for NMC for a minimum of two years upon completion of the two-year program. Deadline is February 13, 2009. NMC also offers five $1,000 Caterpillar Foundation Scholarships with completion of an application.

UNK Department of Music Scholarships
* Must major in some type of music program, and audition either January 23, February 13 or 14, or February 27 or 28. Scholarship amounts vary. Pre-register for audition date. See Mr. Goddard for details.

Burger King Scholars Program
* Must work at least 15 hours a week, for 40 weeks each year. Being employed at a Burger King is not required. Need a 2.5+ GPA. Must demonstrate community service and financial need. Worth $1,000. Deadline is February 2, 2009. Access on-line at www.bk.com/scholars.


Nebraska Chapter National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship
* Must have a 3.0+ G.P.A., demonstrate leadership, hold a current NWTF membership, support preservation of hunting traditions, complete an essay, and pursue a college degree. Worth $250. Deadline is January 1, 2009. Access application on-line at www.nwtf.org/jakes.

U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship
* Must submit on-line application. Worth $1,000. Thirty random drawings determine winners. Deadline is February 28, 2009. Access application on-line at www.usbank.com/studentbanking.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship
* Must have owned your own business for at least one year, have at least one paid employee, and plan to attend a four-year college/university in 2008. Worth up to $10,000. Deadline is January 25, 2009. Access application on-line at www.mckelveyfoundation.org.


American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships (both Milford and Pleasant Dale)
* Must be veteran connected (daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson) who is an American Legion or American Legion Auxiliary member. Scholarships include: National President's; vocational technical; nurse's gift tuition; licensed practical nursing; special education teacher; Ruby Lorraine Paul Fund; Roberta Marie Stretch; and Averyl Elaine Keriakedes (teach middle school social studies). Scholarships worth $300 to $2,500. Deadlines are March 1, 2009. See Mr. Fields for applications.

The Nebraska Academy of Sciences Scholarships
* Must attend college or university in Nebraska. Scholarships worth $100 - 1,000. Deadline is March 1, 2009.

Nebraska Aviation Trades Association Scholarship
* Must be recommended by a member of the Nebraska Aviation Trades Association (There is a local association member) and write an essay. Scholarships worth $500 to $1,000. Deadline is March 15, 2009. See Mr. Fields.


NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship
* Must demonstrate enrepreneurial spirit or initiative, own own business, or be a member of FBLA. National Federation of Independent Business offers 400 $1,000 scholarships. One student can win $10,000. Download application from www.NFIB.com/YEA. Deadline is December 15, 2008.


Tuition Give Away Scholarship
* Must write a 750-word essay on the topic "Why are you the most deserving person on the planet to win a scholarship?" Five winners awarded nationally. Scholarship worth $10,000. Deadline is January 31, 2009. Access application at www.tuitiongiveaway.com.

Blue Valley Community Action Partnership Scholarship
* Must complete application with an essay and three recommendation letters. Scholarships for students attending four-year college and two-year college. Worth $500. Deadline is Feb. 2, 2009. See Mr. Fields for application.


Wayne State College RHOP Scholarship
* Must attend Wayne State and be interested in the rural health opportunities program, including dental hygiene, clinical laboratory sciences, medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry. John Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest
