Grading Policy

Grades for all classes are figured on a total points basis. Large assignments will affect your student's grade more than a small assignment.

There are three general categories of assignments. Summative - Tests, quizzes, and research projects.  Labs - Hands on experiences which are evaluated with lab reports, journal writing, and quizzes.  Formative Activities - these include in class activities, in class practice and homework.   These activities are designed to give the student a chance to practice the skill they are trying to learn.  In general formative assesments are assesed but not graded.

Tests can be retaken. Students must meet with me before doing a retake.  They must show me evidence that they have worked to learn the material they didn't understand the first time. Retakes are available for 3-4 days after students have the test returned to them.  The last test taken will be the grade that is recorded.

Generally all work is due the day of the test or quiz over that unit. All graded work must be handed in or a DND will be given. You will have one week to take care of missing work. After that time parents/guardians will be notified and a DND referral will be sent to the office.

Specific projects will have specific due dates.

If a student misses a lab it needs to be made up the next day or the day after. Due to the nature of lab materials and lab set up time it may not be possible to make up a lab after that time.

Email is the fastest form of communication but I can always mail printed reports and/or call with information. My contact information is on the home page.
