About
After having taught German and English at the collegiate and high
school levels in the U.S., Germany, and China for over fifteen years, I
am delighted to be able to teach both English and German at Waverly
High School. My road to WHS has been enriching, filled with educational
and travel opportunities that have enabled me to experience numerous
cultures, engage in research, and learn foreign languages. I studied
German and Linguistics at UNL as an undergraduate before heading off to
Europe to study at The University of Vienna and travel about. I
briefly returned to my home north of Chicago before heading back to
UNL to complete an M.A. in German with a minor in English. As my
research focuses on diachronic (historical) lingusitics in German and
English, I luckily received a Fulbright-DAAD Teaching Grant to teach
English literature and language at a German high school in northern
Germany for a year. The Pennsylvania State Univerity allowed me to
continue my doctoral studies for the next three years after which time
I moved to Boston to conduct research at Harvard and teach German at
the Boston Language Institute. Only one more pit stop before reaching
Waverly...Washington College, a small private Liberal Arts college on
the Eastern Shore of Maryland, hosted me for six years of instructing
German, linguistics, and literature courses. Remaining in Maryland, I
taught SAT preparation courses and was a long-term substitute teacher
at a private middle/high school near D.C. for the year and a half prior
to my move to Lincoln.
