Welcome to 8th grade math.
Habits of Mind
Habits of
Mind problems are challenging problems which encourage students to
think deeply and explain their reasoning. Once the problem is
presented to the class, each student plots their individual ideas out
on paper. After all students have had time to ponder the problem
and their approach to the problem, they are allowed to work in
groups. When some time working together has passed, each student
is required to complete an individual write-up, and each group is
required to complete a write-up which they then present to the
class. Each individual write-up is graded according the rubric
that may be found below.
