Computer Applications I

CA I Weekly Agenda

Grade Level(s): 9-12
Prerequisite: Junior High Keyboarding preferrably
Assignment: Elective Course Length: One Semester

An introduction to computer concepts and computer applications is presented in this class. Students will be using the software Microsoft Office 2001. Students will learn the following computer applications: word processing, database, and spreadsheet.

Objectives of course:

  1. Explain the basic operations of a digital computer system and the terminology associated with a digital computer.
  2. Explain the purpose, operation, and care of the basic components of a microcomputer system (e.g. the central processing unit, memory, and speed).
  3. Analyze primary storage and the various types of secondary storage.
  4. Identify input and output devices and their uses.
  5. Briefly explain the concept and terminology of telecommunications.
  6. Use an integrated software package to complete word processing, draw, database, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing activities.
  7. Apply basic PowerPoint functions.
  8. Describe ergonomic principles in the configuration of computer work stations.
  9. Apply computer ethics.
  10. dentify career opportunities existing in the information processing area.

Course Covers:

  • Computer hardware and software terminology
  • Applications in word processing, spreadsheet, and database

Weighting of Grades:

  • Tests - 50%
  • Daily Work - 20%
  • Computer Projects - 30%

Retake Policies:

You will be able to attempt a retake on all quizzes and tests. The retake must be done before or after school. The student must come in on either Tuesday morning at 8:00 or Wednesday after school for a review. The retake and review must be scheduled within five school days. The student will receive half of the additional credit earned through the retake, however, never less than the original test. On computer assignments, the students will be given the opportunity to redo assignments for additional points.

Did Not Do:

Students who do not take or finish an assignment/test will be given a DND in the grade book. The student will have 10 school days to arrange and complete the assignment. The student will not receive full credit for the assignment/test.
