Welcome. My name is Mark Madison. I have worked for nine enjoyable years here at Waverly, and my family and I have lived here for six of them. I have taught many subjects. Currently, I am teaching physical science, earth science, and physics. I have coached athletics during my time here as well, and am now involved with the freshman football and girls' varsity basketball teams. I am passionate about both teaching and coaching, and I love working with young people everyday. I'm a graduate of Doane College and received my masters in May of 2004 in Educational Leadership. I think it's important to continue learning. Due to this, my educational philosophy is constantly changing, but what I currently believe is below to read and to hold me to. Philosophy of Education

I believe that schools need to...

be communities of learners.

Schools need to be a positive, safe environment for students to learn effectively. Thus, the appreciation and respect for the uniqueness of each individual must be maintained. It is also important that the school is connected to the community in which it resides.

foster enthusiasm for learning.

A diverse and engaging curriculum is needed to keep schools interesting and relevant to students. The most caring, educated staff available is also needed to create meaningful relationships with students so learning takes place.

promote self-disciplined students.

Students need to be able to discipline themselves to be successful life long learners. They also need it to function in the classroom and their communities. It is an important attribute to being good, moral citizens.
