April 06 Minutes
The Shickley Board of Education met on April 10, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. Present were Tim Alfs, Tim Lichti, Bart Brinkman, Troy Thomas, Jeanie Kassik, Superintendent/Principal Paul Sheffield, Randy Kort and several patrons. Absent was Jenise Straight.
Randy Kort, new principal, was introduced to the board members and visiting patrons.
Patrons shared concerns regarding the boys basketball and football programs.
Marlene presented the minutes of the wellness committee.
Minutes of previous meeting read. Thomas moved, Kassik seconded to approve the minutes as read. Vote 5-0.
Treasurer’s report was given. Lichti moved, Brinkman seconded approve the report as given. Vote 5-0
Kassik moved, Thomas seconded to pay claims totaling $213,617.09. Vote 5-0.
Brinkman moved, Lichti seconded to pay a total of $11,860 for the gym floor refinishing out of the building fund. Vote 5-0.
Negotiations and the 2006-07 budget were discussed. More information will be available at the next board meeting.
Thomas moved, Brinkman seconded to adopt the wellness policy as presented. Vote 5-0
Brinkman moved, Kassik seconded to adopt the special education policies as presented. Vote 5-0.
The property/liability/commercial insurance package was discussed. The increase in premiums was due to several factors including: increasing the amount of coverage on the buildings and contents, addition of other sites (pool, ball field, etc), increase in the commercial umbrella coverage, and increase in workman’s comp premium.
Thomas moved, Brinkman seconded to adjourn to executive session to discuss personnel at 9:25 p.m. Vote 5-0. Executive session adjourned at 10:40 p.m.
Brinkman moved, Thomas seconded to send a letter to Gary Filipi from the board inviting him to next board meeting to discuss extra duty assignments. After discussion, Brinkman withdrew the motion with no objections.
Lichti moved and Alfs seconded to advertise for head boys basketball coach. Vote 5-0.
Thomas moved and Lichti seconded to advertise for second assistant football coach. Vote 5-0.
The certification of head coaches and assistant coaches was discussed. The board directed Mr. Sheffield to develop a policy regarding coaching endorsements for all coaches.
Alfs Well Drilling will no longer remove snow from the playground but will still remove snow from the west parking lot. Thomas volunteered to do so using the school’s equipment.
The idea of having a Facility Study was discussed. Board members will consider this at the next board meeting.
Staffing for 2006-2007 was discussed. Brinkman moved and Thomas seconded to hire Candi Nelson .5 FTE Title 1 and, pending grant funding, .5 FTE special education. Vote 5-0
The next meeting will be Monday, May 8th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Room.
