Work around the school
These students will be expanding their Construction skills with Electrical, Plumbing and basic repair and remodeling around the school. They have had all the shop classes and now will put the skills learned in those clsses to practical use.
We started the semester by replacing part of the table tops in the media center. The students used the old legs and fit new tops to them. By the end of the year we hope to have all the media center tables done
.
Mr. Moore's office needed new cabinets. Mr. Conway found some old cabinets that had been taken out of another office. My class cut the cabinets down to fit, cut and installed new oak facings, built oak panel doors for them and finished them with spray lacquer.
.
The wall to the right is where the new cabinets will be hung. We have to thank Mr. Moore for allowing us to work in his office...he was continually having to move his things around to keep out of our way. The mess you see in the office was there because of the kids moving things around in order to hang the cabinets.
.
Here it shows the cabinets hung and how the students tied the two sets of cabinets together with some custom display shelves between the two at the corner of the walls. They also built two new cabinet doors for the lower cabinets, built and attached new oak drawer fronts and installed new oak kick space boards under the lower cabinets.
.
The CHS Construction Crew! Great job guys!
.
We had a slight problem with one of the walls in the hallway! There was a major hole that needed repair! Here you can see how they put two 1"x4"s inbehind the drywall which will hold the new piece of drywall in place.
.
The new piece has been put in place and they are ready for the drywall compound.
.
Here they are applying the first (of three) coats of drywall compound over the edges that have been taped.
.
This is the third coat of compound that is being applied...each coat gets a sanding after it is dry.
.
The hole has been patched, sanded and now they have painted over the patch with primer.
.
The hole is patched and the wall repainted! Once again...great job guys!
.
The high school office had a remodel job with new cabinets brought in. Mr. Conway felt that Oak base board would look much nicer than the standard rubber type of base that you find in commercial areas. Since this is the room where all visiters come, we felt it should look very inviting! So, once again we put the construction crew to work, making, staining, finishing and installing the new base board.
