Creative Writing
Author Study Project:
Foster

10%    Assignment:  Independent author research project.  You will research and present information about one author – any author – but hopefully one that you particularly enjoy.  Presentation should take around 25 minutes, but please don’t feel limited or bounded by that arbitrary constraint.  Some presentation techniques you may want to try are: showing a video that deals particularly with that author and his or her work; having an example of their writing for our reading benefit; bringing in any outside material that may help us understand who the author is, what it is that they are all about, why do they write, how did they get started, etc.

Project will be graded with the following criteria in mind:

Content:

Did the presentation give a good description of the author?

Was the information presented plausible?  Was it accurate?

Did the presentation allow the class a chance to learn more about an author?

Organization:

Did the presentation have a definite beginning, middle, and end?

Were the transitions handled smoothly and effectively?

Were all instructional and technological aids utilized well.  (Use of aids did NOT distract from the presentation)

The speaker was in control of the material.

Delivery:

Did the presentation present the information in a memorable way?

Non-verbals used:  Inflection, pitch variance, eye contact, hand gestures, articulation, and appropriate volume were utilized to assist listener participation.
