Mary Schlieder: Named Teacher of the Year

Mary Schlieder, a Norris Middle/High School teacher, was named today Nebraska Teacher of the Year.  Schlieder is a member of the National Education Association, the Nebraska State Education Association and serves on the Southeast Region Autism Advisory Board. Staff development is one of her passions, and she has worked with teachers at the local, state and national levels.

Mary recently published a book titled With Open Arms: Creating School Communities of Support for Socially Challenged Kids.  This book will give parents and school staff practical, easy to use tools to create a welcoming school community for kids with social challenges. Readers will find they can “hit the ground running” with the charts, forms, Circle of Friends meeting activities, book club, and staff learning team study guides, with the end result being socially competent kids who feel like they belong.  Visit Mary's website for more information  http://www.schoolswithopenarms.com/
