Early Childhood

Thanks to Joanna Pankoke for doing this session today! Below are the resources I had planned to share with you today.

Here are a couple of sites relating to Internet Safety:

  • iSafe--iSafe America, Inc. is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to educate & empower youth to safely and responsibly take control of their Internet experience.
  • Kids Online Resources--Safety--you might do the activities on the Disney Surf Swell Island with your early learners.

Here are some examples of online books--ebooks. Your success in using these resources will depend upon the speed of your Internet connection and whether necessary plug-ins are installed

  • Hiyah.com--This site has books which will read the stories to the children. It also has games and puzzles.
  • Story Place--this site has online stories. Children can choose between the English or Spanish version. There is a library for either pre-school or elementary.
  • Children's Storybooks Online--Child care providers may need to read these to the young learners. There are a variety of eBooks on this site.

Below are a variety of resources. There are sites where you can find craft ideas, games, as well as resources for child care providers and parents.

nickjr--site offers a wide variety of Internet-based activities. There are stories, games, crafts, and links for parents just to name a few.

Crayola.com offers arts and crafts projects and ideas for everyday or rainy-day fun. They have coloring books and activity pages for any occasion. Be sure to check out their exciting kids' games.

ERIC-EECE Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education--site provides a long list of links for early childhood (funded by Department of Education)

A to Z Teacher Stuff Network: Early Childhood Sites

Resources for Child Care and Early Childhood Education--site has a variety of resources, including craft recipes, curriculum links, and discussion opportunities.

KidsOLR Early Childhood and Education Resources

Scholastic site has resources for PreK-2. Scholastic has a variety of resources, but is especially strong in the reading resources.

PBS--a Ready to Learn Resource for PreK-2 Educators:

Earlychildhood.com provides links to news articles, arts & crafts, experts' advice, reading center, and child care central.
