ST. JOHN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PHILOSOPHY OF ATHLETICS

The St. John School Board has adopted a philosophy of athletics that we believe will serve well as a guideline for coaches, pupils, teachers, and parents.

Consistent with the physical component of St. John's Whole Child concept, all students who desire to participate in athletics should have the opportunity to do so. Each player/participant should be able to play in games under the coach's direction who fulfills practice expectation in terms of time, effort and is consistent with what we feel middle school athletics should promote: namely (1) the excitement of competition, (2) the chance to develop and improve individual skills and (3) learning to play as a team that exhibits Christian sportsmanship.

It is the hope and prayer of the St. John School Board that our children who desire to participate in athletics will grow and develop as young Christian people under the able guidance of coaches and teachers as they prepare them for all phases of the Christian life.

As this is a philosophy adopted by the school for all athletic participants, please direct any comments, questions and concerns to the school board.

The 1993 St. John Lutheran School Board

It is the belief of St. John Lutheran School, its coaches, and School Board that confrontations between parent/spectator and coach during or after games are improper and should not occur. If you as parent/spectator feel that it is necessary to address the coach about a game situation, please kindly schedule a conference with the coach at a time mutually agreeable and a time which would allow for cooling-off and thought-collecting. Please direct concerns first to the coach and then, if you feel that your needs are not being met, you should contact the principal and ultimately the School Board. All concerns are valid and I want to hear from you to be sure that your concerns are being addressed. The entire St. John Lutheran School Philosphy of Athletics is printed and distributed with the fall and winter game schedule. Please take the time to read it.
