Grading Procedures
Calculating grades
Evaluation of daily assignments may be either graded in the traditional
percentage manner or rated on a scale of 1-4. If scored as a
percentage, the grade will be factored into the student's
average. If the assignment is rated 1-4 (4 being best), it is
considered a practice task and will not be averaged into the student's
final grade.
Zeros will not be acceptable. If a child doesn't complete a task,
a DND will be entered into the grade book until such time as the child
completes the assignment.
Grades will be calculated based upon the following components. (Percentages indicate the weighting of each component.)
English, social studies, math and science grades will be calculated using the following percentages:
Daily homework 15%
Quizzes 25%
Tests
30%
Projects 30%
Rated practice* 0%
Reading will use the following percentages:
AR
50%
Daily homework 15%
Skills tests/projects 35%
Rated practice* 0%
*These tasks will be assessed, but the scores will not be factored into the overall grade.
Redo/Retake Policy
If a student feels that he/she did not complete an assignment to the
best of their ability, they do have an opportunity to redo the
assignment. Redone assignments should be stapled to the original
ones before submitting. Tasks exempt from this redo opportunity
include T/F questions and papers that were corrected and/or discussed
in class. Redos should be done in a timely manner.
(Preferably, as soon as possible.) If a student needs additional
instructions or guidance from the teacher he/she is welcome to come in
before or after school. We strongly encourage students taking
advantage of this opportunity, especially if a score was below a 70%.
Students wishing to retake a quiz or test must demonstrate a desire and
show evidence (in written form, signed by parent) of their
understanding of the material. This evidence must be submitted to
the teacher prior to a retake exam. Opportunities for retakes
will be from 8:00-8:25 or 3:30-4:00 and must be scheduled within one
week after the return of the of the original assessment.
(Spelling retakes must be scheduled before Fridays.) The higher
of the scores will be recorded.
